The meeting will be hosted by
ASTRON in Dwingeloo, in the province of Drenthe, about 150km north-east of Amsterdam. Situated next to the institute is the old 25m Dwingeloo telescope (now no longer in operation). The institute is located in the middle of a National Park "Dwingelderveld", a very pleasant wooded area with miles of cycle paths through the park (and many Dutch tourists in the summer). It is an excellent, restful location for scientists from around the world to come and work. Apart from the village of Dwingeloo that is within "biking distance", the nearest towns (with a railway station) are Beilen (about 15 km) and Hoogeveen (about 20 km).

If you arrive by train, you can
use the
time table of the Dutch railway to plan
your journey. Hotel Spier offers a shuttle service (not free) from/to
the train stations in Hoogeveen and Beilen. You can arrange this
directly with the hotel when you make your reservation (tog@spier.valk.nl
), or contact N.
Csonka
If you come to ASTRON
first you will need either a
"friend" to pick you up or a taxi to take you to the institute. A taxi can be
booked by ASTRON (strongly recommended) and in this case it will be waiting for
you outside the station: "Taxi Wanningen" is advertised on the taxi. The taxi
driver will know the name of the expected guest and have a yellow sign "Radiosterrenwacht"
on view in the taxi. The price is € 18.50 from Beilen and € 28.00 from
Hoogeveen. If you need a taxi, please let the institute reception (0521-595100)
or
Nanuschka Csonka
know your arrival time, from where you are arriving and at which station.
Directions for those arriving by
car are available
here. Please note that Hotel Spier is
situated next to highway A28.
