Rationale

Arnold van Ardenne will retire in the spring of 2013. To mark his 65th birthday ASTRON organizes a one day symposium  "Reinventing Radio-Astronomy: Technologies that made a Difference" on May 29th, 2013.

Background

Arnold van Ardenne’s long career at ASTRON has been of major importance for the development of all kinds of technologies that made a difference in the institute and in the entire field of Radio Astronomy. Arnold expressed his wish to celebrate his birthday with a symposium with in-depth talks addressing key technologies in radio-astronomy in which he has been involved (at the same time accepting the unavoidable references to his own contributions!).
The symposium has been planned for May 29th, 2013 exactly one month after his 65th birthday and will be followed by a 1.5 day SKA AA Consortium Meeting.

Target activities

Potential topics for the symposium range from mm to low-frequency technologies, covering WSRT, JCMT, VLBI and (of course) the SKA.

Structure

The full day symposium will take place at ASTRON.

After the symposium there will be a reception for everyone.

We look forward to welcoming you in Dwingeloo!
