On Tuesday 11 May, ASTRON organised a special press day for journalists. On this day they had the chance to talk one on one with scientists and engineers of ASTRON. 

The day started with a visit to the Westerbork telescope, where Andre van Es, project leader of the International SKA Forum 2010, welcomed the journalists. Mike Garrett, general director of ASTRON, proceeded by explaining everything about the International SKA Forum, the LOFAR telescope and its capabilities and the SKA. After that, the journalists got a tour at the Westerbork telescope and saw up close the new technology of Apertif and EMBRACE.

The tour proceeded with a visit to hotel Hartlief in Buinen, close to the LOFAR telescope. Raffaella Morganti presented the science that can be done with LOFAR and the SKA, and the journalists received a tour to the LOFAR telescope itself.
