Introduction

MeqTrees is a software package for implementing Measurement Equations. This makes it uniquely suited for simulation and calibration of radioastronomical data, especially that involving new radiotelescopes and observational regimes. For more information, read our reference papers. Check out the Projects Page for some past and ongoing success stories. You can also take a look at the old front page of this wiki, which is quite confusing but informative.

MeqTrees includes a highly capable FITS viewer and sky model manager called Tigger, which can also work as a standalone tool.

To get involved, or simply to ask us a question, please visit the MeqTrees Forum (you may see an "expired certificate" warning when you follow this link, please ignore it and click through.) Everybody's welcome, and no question is too silly! Note that we won't be answering technical questions by e-mail anymore -- we want all technical discussion on the forum, so everybody can benefit.

Downloading

MeqTrees 1.2 (now including Tigger) was released on 17/09/2011. We currently ship binary packages for a number of Linux distros. See Downloading for details and instructions.

Documentation & Tutorials

New users should start with the animated Simulations Tutorial. A 2010 presentation (meqtrees-me.pdf) on MeqTrees and the Radio Interferometry Measurement Equation (RIME) can also provide a helpful introduction.

Intermediate users can proceed to read our reference papers, and run the 3C147 Calibration Tutorial.

The TDL Bedside Companion is as yet unfinished, but will help the advanced user/developer. For hardcore developers, the old documentation pages are available here.

For historical reasons, we preserve a Beginner's Guide for the aspiring tree developer (including example_scripts.tgz, which are also shipped in the meqtrees-doc package), but this is quite a bit out of date and now only conveys the flavour of the package rather than the actual means to use it.
