Dutch participation in the
NGST-MIRI spectrometer:
ASTRON's role
|
ASTRON
is the Netherlands Foundation for Research in Astronomy ("Stichting ASTRonomisch
Onderzoek
Nederland").
MIRI
is the Mid-InfraRed
Instrument for the
Next
Generation
Space
Telescope
NGST.
MIRI will consist of an imager and a
spectrometer; ASTRON's share is in the spectrometer optics and mechanics.
A British/French/Dutch/German/Italian consortium (with Swedish and Irish
participation), under supervision of ESA and NASA, is responsible for MIRI
as an integrated
instrumental system. The Dutch part of the consortium is led by astronomers
from the universities of Leiden and Amsterdam, under the auspices of the
Netherlands Research School of Astronomy (NOVA),
in collaboration with ASTRON, TNO/TPD and SRON. Funding is provided by the
Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO),
NOVA and the universities.
