Workshop overview

LOFAR's Multifrequency Snapshot Sky Survey (MSSS) has been working toward a first HBA catalog covering the entire Northern sky. Excellent progress has been made thanks to important contributions from many researchers in the LOFAR community. As we look forward to the prospect of a first data release, the time is ripe to draw together the various science groups that have been working with initial data products since the MSSS Science Workshop in April 2014. Science themes that are being pursued are diverse: from nearby galaxies and galaxy clusters in the extragalactic Universe to diffuse objects and pulsars in the Milky Way. A wide range of early science is anticipated to result from the MSSS effort. Ensuring that we achieve the best and most prominent scientific return from our efforts will require close communication and coordination between the MSSS science working groups.

We are therefore organizing a workshop to be held immediately after the LOFAR Users’ and and Science Meetings in Assen. This second MSSS Science Workshop will be held at ASTRON in Dwingeloo, The Netherlands, on 4-5 June 2015 and is open to all interested parties. We anticipate that the workshop will be particularly useful for collaboration members who are interested in wrapping up initial science projects and coordinating an early set of MSSS science publications. There is no workshop fee.
