Panoramic Surveys of the Radio Sky with the Australian SKA Pathfinder
The Australian SKA Pathfinder, a precursor for the International Square Kilometre Array, is on track for first light with the world's fastest survey radio telescope at GHz frequencies in 2012. This is a truly global facility, on the planet's most radio quiet site, that already has more than 350 astronomers from around the world involved in defining the major survey programs which will be carried out during 2012-2017. The hope is that a seamless transition can be achieved to full SKA capabilities in this period. The current status of the facility will be reviewed (all antennas have been ordered and will begin arriving on site this year), as will the process for defining and refining the major surveys.
