All-sky radio surveys are excellent scientific pathfinders for the SKA. I will introduce the ASKAP 3$\pi$ survey ({\sc Wallaby}) and its scientific potential in exploring the HI content of the local Universe, establishing zero-redshift benchmarks for environmental dependence of quantities such as the HI mass function, and even exploring cosmological parameters poorly constrained by WMAP/Planck.
