Westerbork is a member of the European VLBI Network (EVN), and as such regularly takes part inVLBI sessions. Some non-network VLBI observations are also made, but then a proposal to the NFRA programme committee is needed . The Westerbork Synthesis Radio Telescope can act as a tied-array, by adding up the signals from (up to) 14 telescopes in phase (see § 4). At present this uses the TADUmin  hardware to perform delay and phase compensation. . As well as the tied-array mode there is also a single-dish mode which offers a wider field of view at the price of reduced sensitivity.
