WSRT@40: a mini-symposium to celebrate
the 40th anniversary of the
Westerbork Synthesis Radio Telescope

22 October 2010, Westerbork (NL)

General

This year the Westerbork Synthesis Radio Telescope will have been in continuous operation for 40 years ! The WSRT was opened by HM Queen Juliana in June 1970 and continues to be one of the worlds great radio telescopes.

We will celebrate this event with a 1-day mini-symposium on Friday 22 October 2010 in a heated tent at the location of the WSRT. During the symposium we will review the technical and scientific achievements of the last 40 years, and we will also look forward to the next decade with Apertif. On this day we expect to see many of the people that gave the WSRT such a glorious start, and the people that kept it going, as well as its past and current users.

The mini-symposium will start at 10:30 and finish shortly after 18:00. From 18:00-18:30 there is a reception for participants of the mini-symposium and all ASTRON and JIVE staff. The evening programme will start with the featuring of the ISKAF2010 movie. For that reason, we would like everybody to be present at 18.30 hrs.

The LOC has arranged FREE TRANSPORTATION BY BUS from Beilen railway station to the WSRT in the morning of 22 October and back to Beilen railway station after the dinner. A schedule of the bus times and other practical information can be found at the logistics page.
For more information about the mini-symposium, see programme.
