Short Biography

I'm currently a staff astronomer at ASTRON (Netherlands Institute for Radio Astronomy) in a town called Dwingeloo, in the northern part of the Netherlands. I live a bit farther north, in the city of Groningen. I went to graduate school at the University of New Mexico (UNM), in the Department of Physics and Astronomy. My PhD thesis involved observations of ionized gas in the halos of three external spiral galaxies. I used these observations to investigate the rotational speed of the galaxies' halos. It turned out that all three halos rotate more slowly than the galaxy disks. Details of the results (and a copy of my thesis itself) can be found on this site - just look at the navigation bar to the left.

Elsewhere on this site you will also find a list of links that I try to keep more or less up to date, my CV, a photo album which I add to from time to time, and some pieces of software that I have written during my research.
