Welcome to my web pages.

I am a Senior Astronomer at the Netherlands Institute for Radio Astronomy (ASTRON), Dwingeloo, The Netherlands and Professor of Radio Synthesis and the Evolution of Galaxies at the Kapteyn Astronomical Institute of Groningen University.

Here you can find out a bit about me my work and a few other things I care about.  If you are interested in my daily life, click here

I am the Principal Investigator of Apertif, a project to equip every WSRT dish with a focal-plane array. Apertif will hugely increase the field of view of the WSRT, turning it into a very effective survey telescope. More details are here

My family and I travel a lot, often to far-away places. On these trips we take zillions of nice pictures. A (large) selection of these can be found here.

My research is mainly on the structure and evolution of galaxies. Most work I do is based on observations of the neutral hydrogen in nearby galaxies using radio telescopes such as the WSRT, the ATCA or the VLA. Look at the Astronomy page for some more information.
