General information

This is the second in the series of workshops on the status of, and the preparation for, the upcoming HI absorption surveys.
Following the success of the first meeting, this workshop will allow the participants to have an overview of the progress made since then and to exchange experience and plans.

The workshop will cover technical issues, software, and science topics related to HI absorption surveys.
The workshop aims to discuss the current state of affairs of the upcoming surveys and the status of early-science work, and the technical tools that are being developed and tested.
The science, both related to intervening and associated HI absorption, will cover the most recent results on gas in galaxies and AGN, feedback effects, properties of the ISM of galaxies at higher redshift, and the cosmic evolution of HI.
Particular emphasis will be given to the work on collecting important ancillary data, as well as to the development of numerical simulations which will provide the framework for the interpretation of the new data.

The topics we would like to discuss are:

  • status of the telescopes and planning for the surveys;
  • overview of the results from the commissioning and early science;
  • pipelines and analysis tools;
  • preparation (and early results) for optical/IR ancillary data;
  • plans for high resolution (e.g. VLBI/ALMA) follow-up
  • status of numerical simulations

As before, the format will be informal as much as possible, with all participants encouraged to present their on-going work and future plans in this field. Hopefully this will also allow new collaborations to start and to find common ground and synergies between different projects.

Please register and submit an abstract before July 15. The registration fee is 70 euro and includes the welcoming reception, lunches and coffee breaks.
