The Year of the Lamb

| Description: | In the days that the WSRT was the centre of Dutch astronomy, we lived for a few years in The Bork, the second most prominent house in Dwingeloo. It was a large, romantic but delapidated house with a large, unkempt garden: Perfect for entertaining large numbers of people on relaxed barbecues. So, for three consecutive years, together with Wim and Joan Brouw, we invited the entire WSRT user community to join us in celebrating whatever needed celebrating. Apart from the locals, most of the Groningen crowd attended at least once, and many from Leiden, Utrecht, Amsterdam and Nijmegen, and any foreigners that happened to be visiting. This image shows the Year of the Lamb, which was followed by the Years of the Pig and the Goat. Since roasting an animal on the (SRZM) spit required an early start, we were fortunate to have Aart Brouw around, who was 14 and thus remained sober to keep turning the handle. |
