40th anniversary of Dwingeloo Telescope

Submitter: Michel Arts
Description: In 1996 the Dwingeloo telescope existed 40 years. The above picture is taken during the reception on that occasion. At that time the telescope was still used by ASTRON. Many people at ASTRON/JIVE today may not recognize where this picture is taken. The foundation on the left is the foundation of the current guest house which was being build at that time. The building you see is a part of the old ASTRON building. Now people park their car on this place (especially people who start working around 9.00 or later) The canteen was located at the left behind the windows with the sun screens. On the right you see a scale model of the Dwingeloo telescope. I have not seen this model anymore since ASTRON moved to its current building. Does anyone know if this model still exists?

It is also interesting to see how many of the people you see at the picture still work at ASTRON or JIVE. If you do not count the retired people still at ASTRON I see only two people who still work at ASTRON today (Arnold and myself).
