Storm at the WSRT 18 January 2007

Submitter: Arno Schoenmakers
Description: The picture above shows the wind speed as measured at the WRST site at 10 m altitude, near telescope 9, during the day of January 18th, 2007. The time axis is in UT time. It is clearly visisble that at 09:00 UT the wind speed suddenly started increasing rapidly and remained high until about 23:00 UT. At 14:00 UT, right after the impressive gust of more than 100 km/s (the peak in the blue line), it was decided to park the WSRT telescopes in the zenith position where they have remained all night.
The three lines in the picture show the maximum (blue), minimum (magenta) and the average (red) wind speed during 5-minute timeslots. Note, that the average is simply the middle between the max and the min, and not a running average of the 5-minute period.
