The methanol belt of Cepheus

Submitter: Kalle Torstensson and Huib van Langevelde
Description: The radio source Cep A is one of the closest regions of high-mass star formation. EVN imaging of the methanol sources at 5cm (colour) display a filamentary structure extending over 1.7" (1200 AU), straddling the waist of Cep A HW2 (contours 22GHz continuum VLA data from Torelles), the location of newly born stars. Although the emission clearly originates from an equatorial region, the velocity structure (colour coded) does not display an obvious sign of rotation around the central object. Maybe the maser is associated with the material around a cluster of young stars. The circles, crosses, boxes are the location of water, OH and 12GHz methanol masers.
