| Description: | Jan Oort was born on 28 April 1900. In addition to his many achievements in astronomical research, Oort also founded SRZM (or NFRA - "the Foundation"), the predecessor of ASTRON, and served as its first chairman for over 20 years. Prof. Oort was photographed in his office at the old Sterrewacht in Leiden, in 1953. |
