Description: | From Jan 6-8th, 2009, the ASTRON Astronomy Group hosted four undergraduate Physics/Astronomy students from the Universiteit van Amsterdam. As part of a yearly research practicum, these students got an introduction to how professional astronomical research is conducted. These students are potential future users of LOFAR and had the unique experience of being some of the earliest users of the system to observe pulsars. In addition to touring the ASTRON facilities, they were the first to observe the pulsar B2217+47 with the existing LOFAR HBA tiles (bottom left), and reduced wide-band observations of the pulsar B0329+54 to investigate its spectrum and scattering measure (top left). We hope that their interest in astronomy grows and wish them the best in their future studies.
