Description: | After several overhaul iterations at ESO (Garching bei München) to improve flexure effects and image quality, the X-shooter NIR cryostat is ready for transport to the Very Large Telescope (VLT) at Paranal, in Chile. A new and lighter thermal link was installed, which loads the detector with less force. A new generation PLC-based temperature controller and new electronics replaces the prototype Nijmegen electronics. The equipment has left the ESO premises this week. It will arrive on the top of mount Paranal on March 4th at the latest. First light of the NIR-arm is expected on March 14th. |
