Description: | For the Aperture Array Verification Program (AAVP) Portugal has been indentified as a possible European site for the evaluation of SKA Aperture Array demonstrators: closer than South Africa or Australia and with similar climate and Radio Interference conditions. To check the interference conditions Juergen Morawietz and Paul Riemers drove to Portugal for a full evaluation of three potential sites (see also AJDI 16 March 2009). Somewhere in this panoramic photograph you can spot a blue ASTRON van, here in a national park. Not much out there, except wild life and persistent cows! The data processing is not completed yet but first impressions are very promising: hardly any interference. In the grey van our host, Domingos Barbosa from Instituto de Telecomunicações, is overlooking 'his' land. |
