Description: | In the ASTRON R&D lab a photonic phased array receiver demonstrator tile is currently being constructed and tested. This work is part of the photonic phased array technology R&D at ASTRON. In the demonstrator, which is being developed in a collaborative project with the University of Twente and Lionix BV, the received RF signals will be processed in the optical domain with an instantaneous bandwidth between 500 MHz - 1.5 GHz. For the transfer of the RF signals within the tile, each radiator is equipped with an optical analog link. In the current phase of the project, the components of these links (DFB laser, intensity modulator and optical amplifier) are placed on the main tile PCB and tested. Later on, the radiators will be connected to the main PCB after which it will be placed in a frame. A photonic integrated circuit beamformer will be added to the PCB of the system on a separate PCB level. |
