Description: | The LOFAR roll-out is still rolling, but autumn has started. Rainy days with wind make it cold and wet. The soil of the LOFAR fields is completely soaked. Some work had to be stopped, but other jobs are still being executed. Placing the HBA antennas is one of them. The first picture shows the connection of the coax cable to the antennae in between heavy showers. The cover must not be opened while it is raining, to protect the electronics against water. The second picture shows the placement of the top foil. This is a precarious job on windy days. Two people have already been lifted up and blown away with the top foil (25m2). The third picture shows the dark clouds and sucking mud. It is all very bracing and invigorating, in a way that foreigners sometimes find difficult to understand. |
