| Description: | Recently, Richard Schilizzi, director of the SKA Project Development Office (SPDO) paid a flying visit to ASTRON to bring the new Chairman of the SKA Science & Engineering Committee (SSEC), Mike Garrett, bang up-to-date with recent developments at SPDO and in the SKA project in general. There is certainly a lot going on - in particular, the scientific priorities are now close to being fully defined. This has made it possible to present the SKA Phase 1 technical concept to the Agencies SKA Group at their meeting here in the Netherlands during ISKAF2010. Several of our staff, including Jan Geralt bij de Vaate and Andre Gunst are working on providing a first pass of the cost estimates of the project. Despite a busy schedule, Richard was able to enjoy lunch with a few of ASTRON's younger staff members, all of whom are now inspired (and inspiring) SKA enthusiasts! |
