Description: | Two ASTRON scientists have obtained a prestigious Rubicon fellowship: Dr.Ir. Rob Maaskant (ASTRON, right on picture) for work on large antenna arrays and Dr. Christian Struve (ASTRON/ Kapteyn Institute; left) for work on the cold ISM in AGN. Nationwide, and covering all sciences, the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) has awarded 31 young, promising scientists funding from the Rubicon programme. With Rubicon, Dutch scientists holding a very recent PhD can gain experience abroad. Both Rob and Christian will go to Sweden for their research. The Rubicon scheme is very competitive. Nationwide, 155 scientists applied for 'a Rubicon' and only 31 of them were successful. We are very proud that 2 of those 31 were awarded to ASTRON scientists, and of the fact that they were awarded to both an engineer and an astronomer. This underlines ASTRON's strength in both areas.
