| Description: | One of the high points of the ASTRON/JIVE calendar is Pancake Day, when guest-house 'father' Fritz Moller wields the batter. It started originally as a feast for the summer students, to reward them for all the hard work they put in under the stern gaze of their exacting supervisors (at least those that are not on holiday). But the size of the event rapidly ballooned to include those same supervisors (to mollify them, no doubt), their bridge teachers, and an increasing variety of largely astronomical gate-crashers.
The baking process is not fast, but scientists are always happy to pass the time with astronomical gossip (and occasionally some astronomy) while waiting in line. Those that finally get their pancake all agree that it was well worth the wait, and are eagerly looking forward to the next Pancake Day, with a new batch of summer students next year.
