40 years WSRT (1970-2010)

| Description: | The image on the right is the cover of the Yearly Report 1969 of the Stichting Radiostraling van Zon en Melkweg (SRZM), the original name of the organization that has built the famous Westerbork Synthesis Radio Telescope (WSRT), and successfully operated it for 40 years. It shows the result of the very first observation that passed through the entire suite of data reduction software that was written for the new telescope by an army of one. Whereas it may look a bit strange to the layman, it offers much to be savoured by ageing cognoscenti. Today, a celebratory mini symposion will be held on site, with speakers from all over the world. It will be followed by a buffet dinner for the guests and the proud ASTRON workforce. |
