Description: | The SKA Science & Engineering Committee (SSEC) recently met at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratories in the UK. In addition, the Agencies SKA Group (ASG) also met around this time. The third day of the SSEC was open to the ASG, and the SSEC exec was invited to the open part of the ASG meeting on the fourth day. A lot of progress was made but there is a lot still to accomplish, and the next 6 months promise to be very busy. The ambitions of the ASG and SSEC include: (i) establishing a new legal entity for SKA, (ii) identifying a location for the anticipated SKA Project Office (SPO), (iii) obtaining funding for the SKA pre-construction phase (2012-2015) and (iv) beginning the process of appointing a new director for the SPO. The coming year is going to be a busy period for us all. For more information there will be a joint astro-techno lunch today presenting the main outcomes of the meetings in more detail. |
