Today's Colloquium by Ron Ekers (CSIRO, Australia): The Australia Telescope 20GHz blind survey of the Southern Sky

Submitter: Mehreen Mahmud
Description: The Australia Telescope has completed a blind survey of the Southern sky at 20GHz. We have a catalogue of nearly 6000 sources down to a flux limit of 40mJy. For the majority of the sources found we have measured the spectrum and polarization at 5 and 8GHz. This is by far the largest all sky survey at such a high frequency and is dominated by flat spectrum AGN. I will discuss how this "impossible survey" was done and show some of the results. These include source counts, population statistics, Fermi Gamma ray correlations, ultra and hyper compact galactic HII regions, and implications for Planck CMB foregrounds.
