Visit primary teachers ASTRON in Dwingeloo, September 28, 2011

Submitter: Annette de Boer
Description: Following the successful UNAWE workshop for teachers of primary schools in Groningen last June, 15 enthusiastic teachers took a visit to ASTRON in Dwingeloo. During a beautiful sunny day they listened breathlessly to a very passionate story of astronomer Roy Smits and learned about the specific and famous role the Netherlands plays in this sport.
A tour of the high technical laboratory and a peek into the control room of the Westerbork and LOFAR Telescope were on the program. Before the afternoon ended with drinks, CAMRAS Foundation responsible for the restoration of the 'old' Radio telescope in Dwingeloo took the teachers to a real measurement. Result: they did find and heard a real pulsar!
