Description: | On Tuesday 21 February, about 80 people from entrepreneur organisation VNO-NCW Noord visited ASTRON. Managing director Marco de Vos explained how ASTRON can participate maximally in the governmental Topsector High Tech Systems and Materials (HTSM) with its different projects, and stressed the importance of research for industry. ASTRON therefore aims to be maximally relevant in its research and innovative technology for society and the economy. This is why organizations such as VNO-NCW Noord are extremely important to ASTRON. Technological-scientific projects in which ASTRON participates offer many possibilities for regional industry. Arnold van Ardenne, coordinator of the ASTRON SKA Project Office (ASPO), indicated in which ways ASTRON is already cooperating with (international) companies, in the past years with LOFAR and now for the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) project. The SKA is an international consortium to build the largest and most sensitive radio telescope in the world. ASTRON has a leading role in this project. More information about the SKA can be found on http://www.astron.nl/r-d-laboratory/ska/ska. More information and more images of the visit of VNO-NCW Noord can be found here: http://www.vno-ncwnoord.nl/activiteiten/terugblikken/2012/02/24/bedrijfsbezoek-astron/. VNO-NCW is short for ‘Verbond van Nederlandse Ondernemingen’ (VNO) and the ‘Nederlands Christelijk Werkgeversverbond’ (NCW). These organisations merged on 31 December 1996. The companies and organisations associated with VNO-NCW represent 90% of the employment of the Dutch market sector. |
