Description: | Tomorrow the skyline of the Dwingelderveld will change dramatically, fortunately only temporarily. The plan is that at 14.00 hrs, the 25-meter dish of the Dwingeloo Radio Telescope, which weighs over 30 tonnes, will be lifted off its support and placed on a special construction next to it, so that it can be restored. Without restoration, the risk of the structure collapsing is too big and it would have to be taken down. After the dish is removed, all steel parts will be sandblasted and repainted. If necessary, parts will be replaced. After this, the dish will be put back into place. Plans are this will happen in the fall.
The picture shows how preparations had proceeded last friday; note that the 4 legs and the focusbox have already been removed.
