Season's Greetings from JIVE

Submitter: Kristine Yun
Description: 2012 was a good year for JIVE, beginning with an "excellent" rating from our five-year review in March. It was also a noisy year with construction of a new wing of the ASTRON headquarters which hosts JIVE.

In spite of the disturbance, 2012 was particularly noteworthy for our Space Science and Innovative Applications group. As part of the PRIDE (Planetary Radio Interferometry and Doppler Experiments) project initiated by JIVE in 2009, EVN stations observed ESA's Venus Express spacecraft for variety of "near-field" applications. The radio images of the Venus Express spacecraft that appear in this year's Christmas card helped to pinpoint its position with very high accuracy and were reported in the PhD thesis of JIVE's Dmitry Duev (also published in Duev et al. 2012, A&A 541, A43).

We look forward to working in our new office environs at the start of the new year, and wish you all a happy, healthy, and productive 2013!
