SKA1 Baseline Design - Speak now or forever hold your peace.

Submitter: Michael Garrett
Description: The Square Kilometre Array (SKA) Phase 1 Baseline Design (Dewdney et al. 2013) was recently circulated to the community via the RfP (Request for Proposals) - a process that kick-starts the pre-construction phase of the SKA-1.

The baseline design is expected to evolve over the next 12 months via input from the scientific and engineering communities. It's clearly important that we all critically review the first version of the baseline design, and see how it can be improved upon. Several science workshops are planned over the coming months to provide such direct feedback and a major engineering meeting is also planned in October http://www.skatelescope.org/meetings/2013-ska-engineering-meeting-7-11-october-2013-manchester-uk/

Nevertheless, individuals are also encouraged to provide critical comment - it's clear that the design of the SKA-1 is now being finalised - this is the year for all those with a stake in the project to speak their mind, and ensure that we build the best possible telescope for future generations to come.
