Description: | The present Dutch winter is very mild, without any snow or skateable ice. As a result, many geese have chosen the LOFAR core area to waggle around and feed on the nice green grass. In contrast, there are very few geese in the surrounding nature; they apparently prefer their grass to be properly cut. The same applies to roe-deer. The wholesome LOFAR grass is very attractive to them also, and one may often see them roaming between the antennae. In the meantime, it is difficult to tear oneself away from this magnificent image. It is positively dripping with the majesty of the Dutch landscape, which has proved such a fertile perch for probing the unseen Universe with radio waves and radiant minds. |
