ASTRON/JIVE Summer Students Exploring Westerbork

Submitter: Joe Callingham
Description: Last month the ASTRON/JIVE summer students got to explore the Westerbork Radio Synthesis Telescope (WSRT). The ASTRON/JIVE summer student program is designed to give late-undergratude/Masters/early-PhD students a taste of radio astronomy research. One of the perks of the program is also visiting such fantastic telescope sites as Westerbork.

The summer students this year were
  • Emma Alexander (UK; University of Manchester)
  • Mel Rose (US; Harvard University)
  • Chen Xie (China; Xiamen University)
  • Yennifer Angarita (Coloumbia, University de Antioquia)
  • Nivedita Mahesh (India; Arizona State University)
  • Avni Parmer (India; Savitribai Phule Pune University)
  • Ann Njeri Ng'endo (Kenya; University of Nairobi)

The 2017 summer program is nearly finished for the year, with the next three weeks full with the lunch time presentations of what the students researched and achieved. The summer students will be farewelled with a barbecue on Thursday 25 August.
