Galaxy 3C 236 as seen by LOFAR

Submitter: Aleksandar Shulevski
Description: A representation of the giant radio galaxy 3C 236 as seen with LOFAR at lowest frequency and highest spatial resolution to date. The LOFAR radio data was used to produce the radio layer in the composite image (red - LOFAR, optical - SDSS) smoothed to a resolution of 20 arc-seconds. The LOFAR radio map, taken from Shulevski et al. (2019) shows high resolution (6 arc-second) insets of the radio lobes, showing an inner hotspot in the north-west lobe and a triple hotspot (detected for the first time) in the south-eastern lobe.
