OLFAR at the 70th Astronautical Congress

Submitter: Mark Ruiter
Description: The 70th international Astronautical congress was held in Washington DC, USA this year. The IAC is one, perhaps THE biggest conference with exhibition for space. The Dutch companies and research institutes presented themselves in the NL-Space pavilion right in the center of the Exhibition. ASTRON presented the Netherlands-China Low-Frequency Explorer and its future plans towards OLFAR[1]. OLFAR will open up the lowest frequencies (80kHz – 30 MHz), which we cannot observe from Earth due to its opaque ionosphere (at these frequencies). Together with our NSO-PIPP partners we presented the latest developments towards OLFAR. TU Delft presented an engineering model of a lunar rover and TU Eindhoven presented an inflatable antenna prototype. At the conference we presented OLFAR in six (!) presentations along with a paper awarded as finalist in the Luigi G. Napolitano Award, given to space professionals who have significantly contributed to the space community ( “Environmental Analysis of Nanorovers in a swarm for Lunar Scientific missions [2] ”) by Jesús Manuel Muñoz. It was a very good conference to promote OLFAR together.
