GRATE project: phased array system to mitigate interference

Submitter: Koos Kegel
Description: Excellent project news: January 16, we signed the contract for GRATE (GRound-station Array TEchnologies), together with Science and Technology (S&T) and Netherlands Aerospace Centre (NLR), with the European Space Agency (ESA) to develop an antenna array system for the Global Navigation Satellite System (Galileo). Its primary goal is to assure the navigation signals are correctly received in the presence of strong and/or intelligent interfering signals.
This 18 months project builds further on our phased array and interference mitigation experience as well as our contacts within the GNSS community. It allows us to gain knowledge and experience in designing and using a full digital phased array antenna system as stepping stone for similar systems for radio astronomy.
The picture shows the frequencies used for the navigation systems, which are very close to the radio astronomy L-band frequency band.
