The ESCAPE Virtual Observatory (VO) tech forum.

Submitter: Yan Grange
Description: The first week of February the European Virtual Observatory community gathered in Strasbourg for the ESCAPE VO* tech forum. Since we are partners in the relevant work package in the ESCAPE project, representatives from both ASTRON and JIVE joined the forum.

The forum took place in the iconic observatory of Strasbourg (shown in the picture), which also hosts the CDS, a very well-known name to anybody interested in sharing or using public astronomy data.

As the VO community is very pragmatic, about half the time in the meeting was spent in hackathons on many topics, like data modeling, archive analysis using machine learning techniques or inclusion of solar data. For us, the most relevant hackathon was probably the discussion on the inclusion of radio astronomy in the standards.

Keep an eye on this space if you want to keep updated on the status of radio data in the VO, or public data from our instruments in general.

*The VO is a set of standards that can be used to discover and analyse astronomical data.
