Description: | The title of this AJDI was taken from a book by Douglas Adams, about animals that are about to go extinct. It applies equally well to the skating conditions shown on this picture from as recently as Dec 31st 2008. Because of the relentless Global Warming, we had just about given up hope of experiencing this again. But, lo and behold, we are looking forward to more than a week of exceptionally favourable weather, with moderately severe frost, a smiling sun, little wind and no more snow. So, let's make the most of this rare opportunity. To get in the mood, just type in the keyword "skating" in the wonderful AJDI Archive (or click on this this link), to see the inmates of our severely scientific institute(s) frolicking and cavorting on the ice. Personally, I sorely miss my old skating buddy Ger de Bruyn. |
