Telescopen Puzzelroute LOFAR

| Description: | One of the first challenges in my new role in the Communications group was to think of possible coronaproof ASTRON activities in the 'Weekend van de Wetenschap' (2/3 October 2021). Suddenly, I remembered a conversation I had with Gert Kruithof a few years ago in which he mentioned that it would be nice to have a hiking or biking route along our telescopes. I have further elaborated this idea into three 'Telescopen Puzzelroutes' and I am very proud that the 'LOFAR Telescopen Puzzelroute' (9,5 kilometers hiking) will be released tomorrow! It was a real pleasure to realise this walk of 9,5 kilometers through the woods and along the LOFAR superterp, starring Pietro Zucca as our guide during the hike. Thank you, Pietro! Also many thanks to Michiel Brentjens for all the input, my Comms colleagues for their professional comments, Ewoud Wasse for recording and editing the videos and a few colleagues for testing the 'LOFAR Telescopen Puzzelroute'. I'm looking forward to developing the WSRT and the Dwingeloo routes, to be released this Autumn. The LOFAR hike, and in the future the WSRT and the Dwingeloo puzzle routes as well, can be downloaded via the app Beleefroutes.nl and can be walked with the mobile phone in airplane mode. |
