New guides trained for guided LOFAR tours

Submitter: Frank Nuijens
Description: The LOFARTafel is a foundation, established in 2005 by residents and entrepreneurs of the Exloo region in the Netherlands, that aim to increase awareness of the LOFAR project. One of their activities is offering tours in the LOFAR area, where trained guides tell the stories behind the LOFAR telescope and the rich nature area that the telescope inhabits.

On Saturday 20 November 2021, seven new guides received their certificates after an extensive training at ASTRON and the nature conservation organisation Drents Landschap. They were presented with their certificates by mayor Jan Seton of the Borger-Odoorn municipality (left on the photo).

ASTRON is very happy to have such enthusiastic volunteers who help share the workings and discoveries of the LOFAR telescope to the public and also give special attention to the many species of plants and animals who have made this area their home. We wish them good luck and many guided tours. If you are in the area, consider going on a tour with one of the guides. They can be booked by calling Drents Landschap.
