Science at Low Frequencies VIII Wraps Up

Submitter: Joseph Callingham
Description: This year's virtual Science at Low Frequencies (SALF) was the largest ever - with over 400 registered participants. SALF is considered the most impactful annual low-frequency conference, and is particularly important to the Dutch community because LOFAR results feature prominently.

At SALF VIII, we had talks covering the science about radio stars, fast radio bursts, the Epoch of Reionisation, galaxies, and lightning. There were also ideas presented about next generation instruments and surveys - in particular how to exploit the lowest frequencies of LOFAR and potential future low-frequency space-based missions.

This year we also integrated a Gather Town space into the conference, which provided a virtual location to continue the discussion after the end of a talk block, view lightning talks communally, or relax with friends playing virtual board/card games. As you can see from the image - lots of fun was had on top of discussing all the interesting science results.

If you did not get a chance to see the talks, all of them were recorded and available here: https://salfconference.org/salf-viii-2021-talk-schedule/. Thanks to Jason Hessels in making sure this conference got off the ground, and to the SOC for their hard work blindly selecting talks from incredibly strong abstract submissions.
