Purple Friday at ASTRON/JIVE/NOVA

| Description: | ASTRON/JIVE/NOVA celebrated Purple Friday on December 10, 2021. Even though we had COVID restrictions that didn’t allow us to gather in large numbers, we made sure to wear some purple wherever we were. Our colleagues sent us pictures of themselves donning some purple on Purple Friday. To everyone who wore purple, whether they sent us pictures or not, thanks for your support, and let’s keep finding more reasons to show our support to the LGBT community in the future too. Purple Friday is the second Friday of December and is a day organized across The Netherlands to show support and solidarity to the LGBT community. This event first originated in 2010 in schools to stand against homophobia and transphobia that makes coming out a terribly challenging life event. Recognising that such kind of support is needed at all stages of life, this event was quickly picked up by universities and many institutes in the Netherlands. |
