Submitter: | Raffaella Morganti |
Description: | On 8 February 2022, Suma Murthy successfully defended her thesis at the University of Groningen. The title of the thesis is: "A multifaceted view of the interplay between gas and radio AGN" and she has been supervised by Raffaella Morganti and Tom Oosterloo. Suma has worked at a large number of projects using a variety of radio telescopes (EVN, VLA, GMRT, NOEMA), with the main goal of investigating the presence of cold gas in radio galaxies and how radio jets can affect this gas. Suma has been very productive: the thesis includes five papers published in refereed journals. The last one is a nice result which just appeared in Nature Astronomy (see the press release https://www.jive.eu/radio-jet-murthy ). The pdf of her thesis can be found here https://research.rug.nl/nl/publications/a-multifaceted-view-of-the-interplay-between-gas-and-radio-agn but if you would like a paper copy, please ask! Suma has already started as postDoc at JIVE and you have seen her already in action by helping with the organisation of the colloquia! But she has also big plans for more science with EVN and the global VLBI network. Congratulations Suma! Good luck with your new position and we wish you many more exciting results! |
