Description: | The last science observations with Apertif commenced on 28 February 2022. In order to mark this event, the completion of just over 2.5 years of survey operations, we gathered together virtually. It was a bittersweet moment -- while we have a wealth of data to explore in the coming years, there were many more observations we would have liked to undertake. Our gathering started in a virtual Westerbork, where we had a toast to mark the start of the last calibrator observation. After a group photo at virtual Westerbork, we adjourned to a virtual Bospub for a pub quiz on Apertif. The image above shows some of the highlights from our get together. The group photo is in the upper left, and the upper right is our toast as the last calibrator observation started. The bottom left is the final trivia question: Which mode of Apertif is best, imaging or time-domain? Of course, both answers were right, but it does provide empirical evidence for future debates. The bottom right is a word cloud of team members sharing their experience with Apertif. It was no surprise to see collaboration and teamwork show up strongly - it has very much been a team effort to make Apertif a success, so a huge thanks to the whole team behind Apertif! |
