First simultaneous LBA and HBA all-sky images with LOFAR2.0!

Submitter: Cees Bassa
Description: After the rollout of the latest version of the LOFAR2.0 hardware to the LOFAR2.0 Test Station (L2TS) earlier this month, now the first all-sky images are recorded simultaneously the LBA and HBA antennas!

With the LOFAR2.0 upgrade, the station electronics are upgraded to simultaneously record with all antennas and in both frequency bands. After a long period of iterative development, this is the first time all antennas in a station are connected to the newly developed back-end. Creating these all-sky images allows us to test the L2TS hardware and firmware, and confirm that the right antennas are connected. For these images, the cable delays were corrected for, and we are working on the station calibration where residual delays are taken into account. We already achieved this result on the first day of the LOFAR2.0 Validation busy week, so we are looking forward to sharing more results.

The image shows the sky seen with the LBA antennas at 38MHz (left) and the HBA antennas at 139MHz (right) yesterday at 13:38:41UTC. The activity of the Sun is obvious in the HBA image, where it outshines Cas A and the Galactic plane, which are more obvious in the LBA image.
