Science at Low Frequencies IX - the end of an era

| Description: | The ninth instalment of the Science at Low Frequencies (SALF) conference was recently held in Amsterdam (or in your very own Zoom room). The conference showcased the latest advancements in low-frequency radio astronomy, emphasising the international and collaborative efforts that drives progress. In particular, Dame Jocelyn Bell Burnell gave an invigorating key note address on discovery and diversity in astronomy - a living legend and true inspiration for all astronomers. Throughout the conference, attendees engaged in stimulating discussions on a wide range of topics, including (but not limited to!) the exploration of coherent radio emission, transient phenomena, the Epoch of Reionisation, and the development of cutting-edge instrumentation and techniques. I want to thank Rob Kavanagh, Marjan Tibbe, and Liesbet Elpenhof for making the conference run smoothly (covering everything from ICT management to the conference dinner). Finally, I owe my greatest gratitude to Jason Hessels for being the main co-organiser of the conference with me. Jason not only made sure the conference run smoothly but also dealt with all the political components that is involved with organising a large science conference. Jason and I hang up our hat as SALF organisers after organising three of them in a row (~33% of all SALF conferences!). I am already looking forward to SALFX, which is to be hosted by Shanghai Observatory next year! |
