Description: | In the week of January 8th, 2024, ASTRON hosted four 2nd-year bachelors students from the University of Amsterdam for a research practicum. In the practicum, the students analysed LOFAR telescope data to study the properties of two radio pulsars. They learned how to implement the basics of such analysis in Python and how to scientifically interpret the measurements to understand the astrophysical processes that are taking place. This is now the 17th annual offering of the practicum! The students - from left-to-right: Salma, Karsten, Jente, and Sabra - also got a tour of the ASTRON, JIVE, and NOVA facilities, including a live demonstration of HI and pulsar measurements with the Dwingeloo telescope thanks to Tammo Jan Dijkema. Best of luck with your studies, Salma, Karsten, Jente, and Sabra, and maybe we'll see you back at ASTRON some day again. |
